HKW: the Health and Wellbeing of Māori Prisoners on Reintegration to the Community project

footsteps DRJ2012 - 2016  |  He Kokonga Whare: Māori Intergenerational Trauma and Healing Programme

Dr Cherryl Smith is leading this project. Fifty male and fifty female Māori who have been released from prison will be interviewed from selected regions throughout the country. People were selected from Whanganui, Manawatū and Waikato iwi. The aim of this project is to examine dislocation from hapū/self-knowledge (findings from a pilot study) and identify successful reintegration back into community. A survey of 100 participants for this project will measure the impact of historical trauma.
