This can either be two separate part time hours positions, or one full time hours position and will depend on the candidates.

We are looking for a Researcher/Research Assistant based in Whanganui for fixed term employment to 1 September 2023.

Te Atawhai o Te Ao are seeking the services of one Researcher and one Research Assistant for a fixed-term contract, to be part of an exciting and important research project. This can either be two part-time hours fixed term position, or one full time hours fixed term position and will depend on the candidates chosen.

You will note that the two positions, separately, equal 1.1 FTE. This is because we offer all staff 0.1 FTE for professional development (see below for more details). If this role was to be for one full time hours fixed term position, it would be 1.0 FTE.

The Researcher role will involve collecting data, including conducting interviews and gathering literature, analysing and synthesising data, and supporting the research team in the dissemination of findings. The role will involve working closely with the Project Coordinator and the ideal candidate will have some basic experience in conducting research.  This is a 0.6 FTE position (i.e. 24 hours per week).

The Research Assistant role involves supporting the Researcher and Project Coordinator to collect data, including interviewing and gathering literature, and any other tasks identified by the Project Coordinator. The Research Assistant will be well supported by the project team and is an ideal entry level job into research. This is a 0.5 FTE position (i.e. 20 hours per week)

For both roles, understanding of kaupapa Māori and te ao Māori and the ability to relate and engage with Māori communities is essential. More importantly, the project requires all team members to work with Māori communities in accordance with good ethical procedures and tikanga rangahau practices. Both candidates will also have good communication skills (both verbal and written), are able to work in a team, and can get the right balance between working face to face with communities and professionalism.

The roles are fixed term to 1 September 2023.

As part of your employment with us, you are entitled to 0.1 FTE of paid professional development (professional development to be determined between you and the Director), and you will be entitled to the staff benefits health scheme of $1,000.00 per annum for a 1.0 FTE position (e.g. for a 0.6 FTE, it will be $600.00 per year). This is available after working for us for three months and can be used to reimburse health related expenses, including, gym fees, GP, dentist, physio, other health related visits, fitness gear (or similar).

Applications close 6 January 2022, however, if the ideal candidate(s) is/are found before then, the applications will close before 6 January 2023 (and we will remove this job advertisement).
