Research question: What knowledge and methods were used by our tūpuna to construct, utilise, and preserve items used for fishing?

 
This project aims to collect information regarding taonga relevant to Whanganui tūpuna fishing methods and reintegrate this traditional knowledge within hapū curricular. Taonga may include items, texts, images (sketches or photographs), model structures, or kōrero relating to:

  • pā tuna and utu piharau
  • whakaparu piharau and whakarau
  • hīnaki and korotete
  • fishing tools and devices (matau, pā kahawai, and patu tuna)
