Whakatika: Māori Experiences of Racism 2017-2021 | Health Research Council of New Zealand Lead Researcher: Dr Cherryl Smith | Project Coordinator: Helena Rattray-Te Mana Research question: What are the Māori experiences of racism within Aotearoa/New Zealand? This project aims to collect information that will focus on the outcomes of rangatiratanga and racism in Aotearoa/New Zealand. Existing definitions of racism do not adequately reflect the experiences of Māori. Racism for Māori is historically layered but an ever-present issue in contemporary times. The wider objective of this project is to generate new quantitative and longitudinal knowledge of intergenerational trauma. This research project is a continuation of the research undertaken as part of the He Kokonga Whare Research Programme.
